The hiss of flying fireworks and the colorful explosions of light will soon be seen all over Natchitoches as the city prepares to celebrate the July 4th holiday. Celebration on the Cane kicks off Wednesday night at 5:00 pm with live entertainment and then a spectacular fireworks show that will showcase the patriotism of Natchitoches Parish. This event will be a monstrous kick off for the month of July and Natchitoches will keep the fun rolling all month long. The Cane River Green Market will continue its run every Saturday this month starting at eight am and pushing through till noon. Vendors will be on hand to present fresh produce grown locally, handmade arts and crafts, and food and drink. On July 20th and 21st, the Natchitoches/NSU Folk Festival will kick off in air conditioned Prather Coliseum at 9:00 am. This event will showcase food, arts and crafts, musical entertainment and the Louisiana State Fiddle Championships.  This year the theme of the event will be Celebrating Louisiana's Folk Music and all that it entails. The Folk Life center staff has invited artists and performers from all over the state to come and highlight their music and their art at this local event. The Summer Dinner Theater will perform ‘The Taffetas: A Musical Journey through the Fabulous Fifties.’ This event will be a musical setting that allows the audience to imagine they are watching a television review featuring a group of girls singing many of their favorite songs from the time period. Held at the AA Fredrick's Auditorium stage at NSU , the doors will open at 5:30 with dinner to be served at 6:00. Tickets are $25 for dinner and the show and reservations are required. July is filled with live entertainment taking place almost every day and every weekend along Front Street and the Downtown area. Visitors can sit and enjoy a fine meal or just sit down and present themselves with a luscious drink from many bar and grills in the area.
