Workshops Every Wednesday

NATCHITOCHES – Bead Town artist Stephan Wanger is holding a series of Mardi Gras mask making workshops in Natchitoches as part of the “300 Legacy Bead Town Natchitoches” project.

Beginning July 10, a Mardi Gras mask making workshop will be held every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Natchitoches Arts Center located at 716 Second Street in downtown Natchitoches.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with Stephan to create beaded Mardi Gras masks or beaded picture frames as part of the Bead Town Natchitoches experience.

The workshops are part of Wanger’s on-going effort to recycle and reuse unwanted Mardi Gras beads.

Wanger, so deeply moved by the devastation he witnessed after Hurricane Katrina, decided to move to the Crescent City to help rebuild. During his stay in New Orleans, he noticed an even bigger problem. “I was amazed by the volume of Mardi Gras beads that were being discarded. Over 10,000 tons each year”, said the self-taught artist.

“Grab your best friends for a fun evening, or sign up the family for wholesome entertainment and enjoy some family time together,” said Samantha Bonnette, Main Street Manager.

The cost of the workshop is $20 per person. Cash or checks made out to Galeria Alegria will be accepted. Pre-registration is required. Workshops limited to 24 participants.

To register, call the City of Natchitoches Main Street Office at 318-352-2746 or go online to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040A4FA9AE23A31-maskmaking
