Cane River Green Market

The Cane River will be open Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the downtown riverbank in Natchitoches. Each market will feature local vendors of fresh fruits and vegetables, value-added products, and handcrafted items. Market day activities include special programming, musical performances, children’s activities, Zumba classes, and demonstrations.

Tri-Centennial Exhibit, Magnolias & Meat Pies

The exhibit will focus on the contributions that Natchitoches has made to the heritage and history of Louisiana and beyond. Visitors can receive their own copy of a recipe for Natchitoches Meat Pies that appeared in an APHN publication in 1958 and explore the local impact on the film industry with never before seen images of the filming of Steel Magnolias. The event is free and open to the public.

Historic District Walking Tour

Do your out of town guests enjoy history? Do they need something to do on Saturday morning? Join Ranger Tim on a downtown walking tour. The tour starts at the visitor center on Front St. at 10:00 a.m.
Ranger Tim says “visitors will enjoy learning three hundred years of Natchitoches history in an hour and a half."

The 35th Annual Natchitoches NSU Folk Festival

The 2014 Festival theme will be “Tricentennial Natchitoches: Celebrating Louisiana’s Folk Heritage.” The oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase, Natchitoches was founded in the winter of 1713-14 when French explorer Louis Juchereau de St. Denis set up a trading post on the Red River. The region came to be known for its thriving agricultural economy and as a hub of international trade between the French, Spanish, and Native American populations.
