Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is announcing a leader for the Louisiana State Museum's newest attraction. State Museum registrar Jennae Biddiscombe has been promoted to branch director of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum opening July 2 in Natchitoches.
A Massachusetts native, Biddiscombe joined the Louisiana State Museum staff in 2008 after a career as a field archaeologist specializing in early Southwest Native American cultures. She has a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a master's degree in anthropology from Northern Arizona University.
‘As registrar, Jennae played a key role in managing our collections of more than 450,000 artifacts and works of art,’ Mark Tullos, Louisiana State Museum director, said. ‘Lt. Governor Dardenne and I are delighted she has accepted this leadership position at our system's newest museum and Louisiana's newest family-friendly cultural attraction.’
Joining the museum as new staff in Natchitoches are curator Shawn Ryder and security officer Darnerio Rogers.
The 27,500-square-foot museum complex brings together two strong currents of Louisiana history and culture to produce an unforgettable and inspiring visitor experience.
The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame celebrates personal achievement and team effort through its collection of portraits and memorabilia telling the state's greatest athletes' stories. Exhibits present the wide world of Louisiana sports at all levels of play,amateur, scholastic and professional,and the central place of sports in Louisiana life.
The Northwest Louisiana History Museum explores how diverse peoples, and the land itself, shaped a distinctive regional culture and today's strong traditions.
Founded in 1906 with a mission to collect, preserve, interpret and present the state's history and culture, the Louisiana State Museum system includes a complex of seven landmarks in New Orleans' French Quarter and regional and special focus museums in Baton Rouge, Thibodaux and Patterson. The Natchitoches facility was developed in partnership with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and the city of Natchitoches.
