On April 25, 2015, children and families are invited to visit Cane River Creole NHP’s Oakland Plantation for Junior Ranger Day. Junior Ranger Activity Stations will be set up throughout the park. The stations, which open at 10a.m. will allow children to learn about different aspects of plantation culture. This year’s highlights include a Civil War surgery activity, a soil science activity from our friends at Sci-Port, and a harmonica workshop with blues master Ed Huey. Ed will be giving free harmonica lessons and promises to teach the kids a “train” song. The first sixty kids will get to take home their very own free Hohner harmonica.
After completing the stations, children will receive an official Junior Ranger badge and a set of Civil War to Civil Rights trading cards.
Cane River Creole NHP’s Oakland and Magnolia Plantations are open seven days a week from 8am-4pm. For more information call (318)356-8441 or visit the CRNHA website at http://www.nps.gov/cari/.
